Adventures with Gramps--Gangneung

With Gramps in country agian we decided that we need to show him a different side of Korea.  We headed out to the east coast on Friday afternoon and our first stop was Gangneung.  It is a 3 hour drive so E elected to take a nap for a large part of it.

Gangneung is right on the East Sea (Sea of Japan).  So we figured we should at least take Gramps to the beach even if it was too cold to swim.

Gangneung has dubbed itself the "pine city." We have visited Gangneung a few times before to see our friends Andy and Lindsey.  This area always feels like a special retreat for us away from the busy city. It was so fun to go back.

While there we revisited what I would consider our best Korean dining experience, pumpkin duck.

It really is incredible.

It was a challenge keeping Everett's hands off the table.

This is the exterior of the pumpkin duck joint, Heo Heo Sarang.

After our dinner Friday evening we headed up to Sokcho, another hours drive away.  One of the things that Bonnie found entertaining was Everett's face as we entered a tunnel.  Korea is pretty rugged out east and there are tons of tunnels.  E found them semi-frightening.

Next blog stop: Sokcho.
