Missouricana

Well Thursday morning Bonnie and I leave for Chicago and then Saturday night we leave for Europe with 4 of our good friends. Here are some highlights of our time at home so far.
We've seen lots of grass and fields since Bonnie's parents moved to Platte City (on the outskirts of KC):
We've eaten in Downtown KC:We've spent time with family. This is Bonnie's grandma, mom, and aunt.
We went to see Little House on the Prairie at Star Light Theatre.
They offered buggy rides. We declined
We ate some good KC barbeque at Aurthur Bryants.
Look at the size of that sandwich.
It has been a great time here in Missouri. Sorry that we haven't blogged more. We have been especially lazy since getting home. Hopefully we will be able to post some updates when we are in Europe but it could be a 3 to 4 week break between this and future posts.

Tom's Golden Birthday

Yesterday Tom celebrated his golden birthday (meaning he turned 28 on the 28th of June).  Tom's sister Lori and her son Moses (Mo) came in from Arkansas to help us celebrate.  We spent the day hanging out with family, eating brats and DQ ice cream cake, and going to see the Kansas City Royals play baseball.  The Royals even won, which was especially great since winning is not a for gone conclusion when it comes to the Royals.  It was also Mo's first baseball game!!! I think we all had a great time being together and celebrating with Tom.

baby lakin

These are my best buds! Sara (second from the left) is preggers with baby Lakin.  We can't wait to meet Sara and Chris' baby girl, so we threw a baby shower for Sara.  This was our first baby shower, and I think we pulled it off alright.  The pictures above show some of the highlights.  To read more my friend Polly blogged in greater detail about the event.  The diaper cake was mostly a Jerre Robertson (my mom) creation.  Good job mom! Overall I think the shower was a success.

home sweet home

Hank (pictured with Tom) and Macy (with me) have been great companions since we've been back.  We've actually been a bit busy since we landed; visiting family, hanging out with friends, throwing a baby shower, going to appointments (bad news...Tom had a cavity), etc.   We spent a handful of days in Columbia, our hometown, and toured our favorite places while there: Flatbranch, Kaldi's Coffee, Uprise Bakery, Shakespeare's (the downtown location), Addisons, the Crossing, and Randy's Frozen Custard.  Our time in Columbia is a bit more limited this summer because my parents moved to the Kansas City area where Tom's parents also live, so much of our time will be spent around KC, MO.  Let the relaxing begin!

the worst part of coming home

The worst part of coming back to America is jet lag.  Just like it says in the picture, it's about 3:30am here in America and we are wide awake.  Even more of a bummer, we've both been awake for over an hour.  We've had to deal with jet lag a handful of times now and we still haven't figured out a special remedy on how to fight this pesky traveling companion.   Any suggestions?

All that being said, it's totally worth going through jet lag to be home.  It's been great to be in America for a bit and especially great to hang out with our families.

USA!

It's official...we are on summer break!

We accomplished a lot this school year, and we're glad that the Lord gave us the strength to finish strong.   We didn't even start packing until about an hour ago (8pm Korea time).  We were just too busy finishing up end of year responsibilities to think about packing!  Tomorrow we leave for the airport around 7am Korea time, catch our flight at 10:30am (Sunday) to Atlanta, arrive in Atlanta at 11am Sunday (that's right its only 30 minutes---NOT, try 13 hours), fly to KC and hopefully arrive around 2:30pm Sunday afternoon.

Our general summer agenda will be to hang out with family and friends in the States for 3 weeks, travel through Europe with friends for 3 weeks, back in the US for 1 week, and then we'll fly to Korea on July 31 (Emily Kiser and Harry Potter's Bday).

Bye Korea....Hello America!

dr. fish

See this nice coffee shop?
They give you a free "self bar" (aka a free bread bar where you can make an unlimited amount of toast!) with your beverages. Kind of cool....
But, oddly, they also provide a "Dr. Fish" experience for a couple of bucks extra with your drinks. Essentially you stick your feet in a pool like thing and little fish come and eat off your dead skin. I (Bonnie here) thought I would love it. In fact, I really didn't like it. It was so dang ticklish. But a fun Korean experience none the less.
