Our Team

The landscape and people were great in Nepal, but another highlight of the trip was getting to spend time with our students.  The picture above is of the 13 students and 7 staff that went on the trip.  It truly was such a great group!  For the most part, there were few complaints, lots of joy, and a willingness to love a culture that is very different from our own.  Like we've mentioned before, our big team of 20 got broken into four smaller teams.  This is the crew that with was with us for the week:

Do Hwoe (pronounced Doe Hey), Lydia, and Hilary.  Although meant to be funny, this picture was in someways representative of our trip!  The three kids and us got along really well together.  It felt like a family.  It was actually so family-like that Do Hwoe and the girls would banter back and forth at times.   It was quite funny.  Here's another pic with all of us and our guides:
One of the most rewarding parts of the trip was seeing the way the students were changed and impacted.  At the end of the week all the groups met together and after sharing a meal together we sat down as a big team of 20 to reflect on the week.  Every single student voluntarily shared something about how this trip changed their life.  Listening to these kids share was beautiful...it's what you hope and pray will happen on the trip.  Some highlights from the students:
1.  One team hiked with a pastor that had been in prison twice for sharing the gospel.  This team and the pastor were trekking to see a baptism.  Two people were suppose to be baptized.  By the time they got there for the baptism, 9 people had decided to be baptized--three of which were our students!
2.  An impactful moment for one student happened the first night we all ate a meal together in Kathmandu.  While we were sitting around chatting after we were done eating, this student noticed a kid came in from the street, took plates off the table, and then went outside to eat our leftover scraps of food.  The harsh reality of poverty became eye opening to our students.
3.  Lydia from our group learned from Ronjan to not be afraid of sharing her faith.  That it doesn't matter what people think of her.
4.  Many students commented on realizing how blessed they are to live in Korea.  Yet they also noted that despite having much less wealth than the developed world, many Nepali's were quite joyful.
5.  The statement was made by many of us that we went to Nepal to give, but really Nepal gave us so much more.

Here are more pictures from our small team:
Hilary always looked like this with her bag disheveled and things (cameras, etc.) hanging off of her.
This is Do Hwoe trying to be like the popular ad in the picture above him.
Lydia was on a mission to take as many videos as possible.  Here she is putting her camera in the face of an ox.  These oxen wondered openly in the villages.  This Ox in particular is actually standing in the village water spout.
Me and my fellow adventurer through Nepal and life.  I tried to look like Rambo as much as possible while hiking.
