Last weekend we traveled to two away games with our basketball teams. While on the way home we stopped at a rest stop for some lunch and stumbled upon a restaurant called "Americana." We thought this was super exciting so we decided to check out the menu. Check out what we spotted:

Cheese Bong anyone????
Another classic Korean encounter is dealing with awkwardly parked cars in the parking lots. Since it's SUPER COLD in Korea right now (rumors say this is the coldest winter here in at least 10 years) everyone with a car at our apartment complex parks in the basement where it's a bit warmer and protected from the elements. This makes the basement really crowded because a lot of people usually park outside. The problem, however, lies in the fact that there aren't enough spots for all the cars. So what do Koreans do about this dilema? They make up parking spots anywhere and everywhere...including parking right in front of your car. Now this may seem like an issue to most Americans because it looks like you are blocked in, but have no fear! In these scenarios, Koreans leave their cars in neutral. This means that instead of being frustrated and stuck you just push the other car out of the way until you have enough room to get out. It's a pretty crazy concept for us Americans to wrap our heads around, but it surprisingly works quite well. Case and point:

Interesting about leaving cars in neutral! I don't think I would have ever tried to push the car to find out!
Another thing I have found is that Koreans are super concerned about all pregnant women and really feel the need to tell you that you should not do X or Y because they say so (no facts or stats). I feel like often telling them they should not eat garlic flavored things for breakfast or that they should brush their teeth and carry gum each morning for their severe morning breath, because that seems to be more toxic to me and my fragile stomach than having a half-caff Starbucks!
That is too wild. I can't imagine pushing around cars to make room for exits but I can see where it would work. When you say the coldest winter in 10 years what temperatures are you talking about?? This is turning out to be another horribe winter here too. Temps in the single digits and we just got another 7 inches of snow yesterday with two more storms projected in the next week. I NEED SUMMER!!!!
Doe, the highs have been in the teens and single digits. The lows have been below zero. When they say it's "been the coldest" we think they mean its the most days they've had below freezing (it's been about a month below freezing). It just feels so cold all the time.
Bethany, I've found the same to be true about Koreans in the short time I've been pregnant so far. They also love to touch your belly, which is super awkward right now because I don't really have a baby bump yet.
